How we pick

Short version: we look at what real viewers watch next, what the shows have in common, and how well they are rated. Then we check the result with a human-sounding second opinion. No coin flips.

Where the candidates come from

We start with titles that viewers of your favourite also watched and liked on TMDB, titles TMDB marks as similar, and titles that share its themes, its genres or the people who made it (the same lead actors, directors or creators). We also look at what Trakt viewers tend to watch after it.

How they are ranked

Each candidate earns points for the things that make two titles feel alike: shared themes and tone, overlapping genres, the same people, how often viewers pair them, and how well they are rated. Quality counts, but it never beats fit: a brilliant show that feels nothing like your favourite stays low.

Very new or barely rated titles need a minimum number of votes first, so one enthusiastic week does not put them on top.

Where AI helps

AI does two jobs. It suggests a few extra titles a human would think of that the data can miss, and it reads the shortlist to judge how close each one feels, then writes the short “why this” note. It only sees public titles and descriptions, never anything about you, and it can be wrong. When it is unavailable, the lists still work from the data alone.

What we do not do

We are not paid to push a title, and nothing here is sponsored. We do not give away endings: the notes avoid spoilers.

Where the data is from

Titles, ratings, posters and descriptions come from TMDB. Where-to-watch information comes from JustWatch through TMDB and can change. Found a miss? Tell us at hello@whattowatchnext.net.
